Summer Camp 2025 - Space Week

🚀 Space Week Recap at EAPS! đŸȘ

This week, our campers rocketed into a universe of creativity, exploring the intersection of art, astronomy, and cosmic curiosity.

We began by exploring perspective and reflection as we painted ceramic astronauts, inspired by Alan Bean, the only artist to paint the Moon from firsthand experience. Campers imagined galaxies reflected in space helmets, learning to use depth and color for a cosmic effect.

Our astrology dishes gave campers a chance to learn about zodiac signs and constellation patterns. Using clay slabs, cookie cutters, and handbuilt elements, each student created a unique dish and painted it using a dabbing technique to mimic swirling nebulas.

We studied solar eclipses and the glowing corona, taking inspiration from painter and physicist Howard Russell Butler. Using masking and blending techniques with oil pastels and paint, campers captured the brilliant contrast of light and shadow found in eclipse events.

Taking a turn toward the unknown, we introduced campers to Ionel Talpazan, a self-taught artist who painted hundreds of visionary UFO artworks. Inspired by his story, students created 3D paper UFOs complete with alien passengers and beams of light abducting cows—equal parts artistic and imaginative!

We closed the week with a quiet moment of intention, folding origami wishing stars from paper strips inscribed with personal hopes and dreams—sending their wishes into the universe with every fold.

Space Week was more than just fun—it was filled with learning, self-expression, and wonder. We’re so proud of what these young artists created and can’t wait for the next adventure!
